대한반려동물협회(이하 ‘대반협’)는 반려동물 복지 향상과 반려문화의 올바른 정착을 목표로 부설기관인 「한국반려동물협회」를 공식 설립했다고 9일 밝혔다.
한국반려동물협회는 반려동물 관련 산업과 문화의 균형 있는 발전을 도모하고, 국민 인식 개선과 반려동물 복지 증진을 위한 다양한 사업을 추진할 예정이다. 특히 반려인과 비(非)반려인이 함께 공존할 수 있는 사회적 환경 조성에 중점을 두고 활동을 전개한다.
대한반려동물협회는 그동안 반려동물 관련 연구, 교육, 정책 제안, 산업 활성화 등을 통해 국내 반려동물 문화의 기반을 다져왔다. 이번 부설 협회의 설립으로 현장 중심의 전문 연구와 실천적 사업 추진이 가능해질 것으로 기대된다.
한국반려동물협회는 향후 △반려동물 복지·보호 관련 캠페인 전개 △전문 인력 양성 프로그램 운영 △유기동물 문제 해결을 위한 사회적 연대 강화 △반려동물 산업 표준화 및 윤리적 소비문화 정착 등의 사업을 중점적으로 추진할 계획이다.
대한반려동물협회 김종우회장은 “한국반려동물협회의 출범은 반려동물 복지 수준을 한층 높이는 계기와 사람과 반려동물이 상호 유대하며 함께하는 사회를 위해 협회가 선도적인 역할을 하겠다”고 전했다.
한편, 한국반려동물협회는 전국 단위의 회원 조직을 구성해 반려동물 산업 관계자, 연구자, 반려인 등이 함께 참여할 수 있는 개방형 플랫폼으로 운영될 예정이다.
